His standing extends across arbitration, construction, and sports law. Chris earned his doctorate from the University of Zurich in 2010, after spending 2008–2009 as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. He previously received his Master of Law from the University of Fribourg in 2002. He works in German, English, and French.
The practice covers the full dispute lifecycle, including pre-dispute advice, negotiation, mediation, conciliation, adjudication, dispute boards, arbitration, arbitration-related litigation, discovery, enforcement, and related strategy. The team also has substantial experience in setting-aside proceedings before the Swiss Supreme Court. Although its primary focus is counsel work, members of the group also sit as arbitrators, providing additional insight into tribunal decision-making and procedure.
The group handles disputes arising from infrastructure and construction projects, M&A transactions, joint ventures and shareholder arrangements, energy projects, investment disputes, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, mining, commodities, automotive, technology and intellectual property, licensing and distribution agreements, hospitality, finance and banking, and transport matters including aviation, shipping, and maritime disputes.
The team also has particular sector strength in construction, energy, life sciences, mining, shipping, trade, transportation, commodities, sport, and entertainment. Its lawyers remain closely involved in international arbitration developments through arbitral institutions, professional associations, academia, and other international organisations.
The firm’s principal areas of practice include banking and finance, competition and antitrust, construction, dispute resolution and international arbitration, intellectual property and information technology, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, private clients and estates, real estate, restructuring and insolvency, taxation, and white-collar crime and compliance. Its multidisciplinary structure allows lawyers from different practices to work together on complex matters involving multiple legal, commercial, and regulatory considerations.
Schellenberg Wittmer combines strong Swiss market coverage with an international outlook. Its Zurich and Geneva offices provide comprehensive support across Switzerland, while its Singapore office serves as a gateway for inbound and outbound matters involving Asia and supports international arbitration work across major Asian centres. The firm also coordinates cross-border work through regional desks and relationships with leading firms in other jurisdictions, enabling it to assist clients on international transactions, investments, regulatory matters, and disputes.
“Few arbitration lawyers match Chris’s breadth across counsel work, tribunal appointments, and Swiss Supreme Court proceedings. Clients benefit from his ability to navigate both the merits of a dispute and the procedural strategy that can ultimately determine its outcome.”
